Back to the future...

Back to comfortable blogging (in comfy chair with 802.11g(encripted)), thanks to Mr Credit Card, I now have a brand new Laptop that I hope will last. It's an IBM ThinkPad R51, so I really really hope so. Graphics card is the Dogs Whatnots, even better than my desktop PC. Has taken a few days to get it back to where my old laptop was in terms of software etc. and configuring it to have three partitions (Progs, Swap and Data - so that the Windows temp area does not get fragmented and slow down the machine). I am also paranoid enough to backup all of my work to 3 CD-RW's (each a copy) and my desktop PC, and work in progress that ends up on the weekly backup on a USB pen - so no 'work' lost.

Great Escapes

Went to see this on Thursday, absolutley brilliant, pics of the IWM to below... Great Escapes

German Encipher/Decipher machine

Gernam Enigma (Army Version), see Bletchley Park and NZGirl rather than U571, a good film, but historically inaccurate - slight chip on shoulder, Americans should not take offence.

Spitfire

Engine and bottom part of a V2, the prototype for the Apollo Moon Landings - See Wernher Von Braun

After all that...

Still not working correctly. Managed to get the whole thing back together and running, but after a few hours, the eventual heat build up started to cook the graphics card - must be a design flaw. I always wondered why the model was only on the market for a few months.

Rebuild pics to follow.

Strip down and rebuild

Have completly taken apart my laptop and put it back together and it still works! Doing a disk check now after I thumped it on Wednesday - hope all works, but still have one screw left {-(

I think the problem was a loose connection between the graphics card daughter board and the motherboard even though it was screwed in place, only time will tell.
